There are quite a few RV discount clubs you can join. As full-timers, we find that nearly any club we join is going to save us a good bit of money. Typically they are priced with vacation travelers in mind and offer such folks a decent deal. When you stay in RV parks most of the year as we have, they can be a tremendous bargain.
Good Sam Club is the discount club that we end up using most often, largely due to them having more than 2,100 parks in their network. Using Good Sam will get you 10% off your RV park stay, typically for your entire stay. The only exceptions we have found are that some parks will not give you the discount if you are already using some other discount, that can sometimes include their normal discount for weekly or monthly rates. That said, some parks have given us the Good Sam 10% in addition to other discounts on offer. They also have many tertiary benefits such as discount prices at Camping World stores, fuel discounts at Flying J stations, online planning tools on their website, and various social promotions. We’ve used the discount at Camping World to good effect but have not used their other offerings as of yet.
While the 10% discount may seem small compared to something like Passport America, the low yearly price of $25 and the wide range of places that offer their discount means Good Sam is almost guaranteed to cover its cost in a week or two of parking. Adding up all the times we have used it in the last 6 months and we’ve more than made our money back 5 fold. The smallish discount does mean you need to take into account the park’s base price compared to others not in the network. If a competing and comparable park is simply 10% cheaper to start with, Good Sam isn’t going to do you a lot of good there. For this reason, we don’t always start looking for parks by searching for those in the Good Sam network, but once we narrow the list down we check to see if any of them offer Good Sam and we take that into account when comparing price.
