The Details
I love it when parks accept Passport America for short stays. The discount always makes you feel like you struck gold. Shadrack Campground is a bit short on amenities but it is a nice clean park and has a lot of heart. While we were there, it was about half empty, but I imagine on race days it is humming with activity as fans share their joy of Nascar.
The Park has located off a fairly busy street but it is tucked away in a valley between the roadway and steep forested hills. The roadway isn’t so pretty but the hills are actually very striking and beautiful. This shelters the park effectively from the road noise but has a couple of problems. Firstly there are some steep driveways you must navigate to get in and out of the park. Secondly, were there to be a flood the parking areas would be ground zero for water flow. Don’t go if there is a storm predicted for the area.
Neither of these factors made our stay any less enjoyable. We managed the driveways just fine and the weather was clear and sunny. The bathrooms and clubhouse were nice and clean. They also showed some ingenuity and creativity on the part of whoever constructed them. While we were there, they actually let us have two sites for the price of one so we could pull through rather than back into our site. I don’t think they would do this if they were full, but it was very thoughtful of them and much appreciated.
All in all, I think this is a great place for a short stay, and well worth the asking price. I imagine if you come here for race day, the price goes up but so does the fun of camping out with fellow fans. Shadrack Campground gets a solid recommendation from me.
