The Details
Skowhegan KOA was quite festive when we arrived, apparently celebrating Chrismas in July with a contest for who could put up the most festive yule-tide display. KOAs are almost always good about having a very kid-friendly park. Skowhegan had different events happening for kids pretty much the entire time we were there, and there were quite a few kids out and about enjoying what they had on offer. For family vacations, KOAs are a pretty good bet.
Unfortunately, Skowhegan had significant flaws in the two things that are most important to me in an RV Park: good parking sites, and good clean bathrooms. Neither were disasters, but both showed a lack of commitment to quality. The bathrooms were not filthy, but they were not thoroughly cleaned either. The showers were especially bothersome. Each was located in a sort of closet with the entrance leading onto a balcony. They were so tiny, I could barely disrobe and dress in them. Cobwebs were abundant despite the small size and smashed bugs were all over the walls and ceiling. With such a small space, I’d have thought it would be simple to clean them.
Our site was bumpy and a little on the small side. It took all our levelers to get our trailer sorted out. Not all the sites were uneven. They have a few that are very nice, located towards the front of the park. It was the sites more towards the rear, where we were located, that were unsatisfactory by our standards. More sites than not were cramped and uneven.
Still, they have a full slate of amenities at the park and the price, while on the high side is not outrageous. Wifi and Cable are included in the price, unlike a lot of parks in the east. The staff were friendly and the environment in the park is reasonably attractive and quiet. If they were a little better about maintaining their facilities, I’d give them a solid recommendation. As it is, I can only say it’s a decent park.
